New manuals! Rewritten Karate manuals for students age 5-12, under purple belt. (Click this to see a post about why we made this change).

If you haven’t yet, check out the “Current Students” tab. There are vocab study lists, homework helper sheets, and a “Sensei’s Bookshelf” recommended reading list (for those of you who can’t figure out what to do on days we don’t have class).

Calendar notes:

  • Arnis Seminar (free!) + test (not free) 6/21. Focus will be on yellow and green belt material. Students may attend seminar and choose not to test at the end. Upper belts are highly encouraged to attend for review purposes.
  • Summer Camp, July 28-August 1!!

Click “More” for reminders & the weekly challenge!

Rule Reminder: Cramming for a test is not an effective long-term learning strategy. At NWSMA, the senior black belts will let you know when you look ready for a test. “Looking ready” includes knowing your stuff, knowing your previous stuff, showing improvement since the last belt level, showing good attitude, and also putting forth consistent effort in class. Good things will come to those who put forth steady effort!

Weekly Challenge: Help make new students feel welcome! Introduce yourself, and help them follow along in class.

Weather Cancellation Policy Reminder: If school gets cancelled in the Stanwood-Camano school district due to weather, NWSMA classes will also be cancelled. Cancellations will be posted on our Facebook & our Twitter. Not all of our students live in Stanwood-Camano. Please don’t take risks to get to class if the weather is different where you are.

We welcome feedback on our website and our teaching! Feel free to email us if you have a comment or question.
