Thursday Dojo Cleaning!

Have you ever wondered what goes on in the advanced class? Thursday’s advanced class students warmed up with a traditional dojo cleaning this week.

We didn't have any fun. We promise...
No fun going on here. None at all. 😛

In Japan and Korea, starting at elementary school, students are responsible for cleaning the school and classrooms, and it is a common practice at dojos and dojangs as well.

In dojo culture, cleaning the space you use shows gratitude for being able to use the space to train. It also builds a sense of involvement by making students aware that they are part of a greater whole.

From time to time, we like to have a dojo cleaning day, just to remind students of the value of our space and the value of hard work. We find everyone a job to do, from cleaning floors to vacuuming the corners and closet. Everyone had a great attitude during this dojo cleaning.

After all that work, the dojo was left sparkling clean and we were able to get in some practice. Especially awesome was our newest white belt, who got right in there and helped without any complaints. Great teamwork, and thank you, advanced class!
